Answers to your Questions
How will hiring a doula affect my partners role during birth?
Doula care will never replace the sanctity of your partners involvement in birth, were here to support them also! Education and support starts during those prenatal appointments. Familiarizing your partner with the aspect of labor and delivery is important so they feel informed later on. I am happy to teach easy natural pain management techniques that they can perform on you as well for continues involvement in the process. During labor partners need breaks too! Gentle reminders all around to take sips of water, rest if needed, are all important so that they can feel and be their best in supporting you.
What are your interactions with medical staff like?
My biggest goal as your doula is to be apart of an effective,
and caring birth team who shares a common goal. As a non medical supporter, I will work along side Midwives/OB's, and nurses, they will take care of you medically and manage anything unexpected that is health related. My job is to support you mentally and physically. Help explain the progress and your options further, and ensuring you are heard and advocating for all needs to be met.
What type of births do you attend?
Every kind! Whether your birth is at home, a birth center or the hospital the way you choose to birth is unique to you. I am a registered doula with Novant & Cone. I have experience with medical inductions I can help prep you for, support during and after cesarean. I’ve had training in pelvic biomechanics to specifically help with optimal positioning when laboring with an epidural. And of course, experience with home births and birth centers with extensive training in natural pain management techniques, suggestions during labor to help ease any tension, emotional and empowering support.
